GREENBELT, Maryland (PNN) - February 20, 2013 - A colossal sunspot on the surface of the sun is large enough to swallow six Earths whole, and could trigger solar flares this week, NASA scientists say.

In this case, a scientist who voluntarily had a chip implanted in his body has developed a computer virus. Just because we can do something doesn’t mean we should do it.

Audi to make fuel using solar power

STUTTGART, Germany (PNN) - January 25, 2013 - Audi is building a plant that will use solar and wind power to make methane from water and carbon dioxide. The plant, which will use technology developed by Stuttgart, Germany-based SolarFuel, is scheduled to start operation later this year. It will produce enough methane to power 1,500 of Audi’s new natural gas vehicles, which also go on sale this year.

TOKYO, Japan (PNN) - January 22, 2013 - Worried about all those security cameras tracking your every move? Try rocking one of these visors and once again enjoy anonymity.

At least that's what Isao Echizen from Japan's National Institute of Informatics is trying to achieve with the Privacy Visor.

Developed with Seiichi Gohshi of Kogakuin University, the visor has a near-infrared light source that messes up cameras but doesn't affect the wearer's vision, according to the institute.

Rheinmetall demos laser that can shoot down drones

BERLIN, Germany (PNN) - January 8, 2013 - A laser weapons system that can shoot down two drones at a distance of over a mile has been demonstrated by Rheinmetall Defense.

The German defense firm used the high-energy laser equipment to shoot fast-moving drones at a distance.

The system, which uses two laser weapons, was also used to cut through a steel girder a kilometer away.

The Borey Class submarine, dubbed Vladimir Monomakh, has a next generation nuclear reactor, can dive deeper than 1,200 feet, and carries up to 20 nuclear intercontinental ballistic missiles.
