Commentary: Freedom: because it works or because it’s right?

December 27, 2012 - Libertarians divide into two broad classes: those who espouse a free society because it gives better results than an unfree society, and those who espouse a free society because they believe that it is wrong to deny or suppress a person’s right to be free (unless, of course, that person is suppressing the equal rights of others to be free). “Consequentialists versus deontologists” is the oft-encountered labeling of this difference. It is unfortunate that so much energy has been devoted to infighting between these two groups.

Fears that the end of the world is nigh have spread across the world with only days until the end of the Mayan calendar, with doomsday-mongers predicting a cataclysmic end to the history of Earth.

December 7, 2012 - Ahead of December 21, which marks the conclusion of the 5,125-year "Long Count" Mayan calendar, panic buying of candles and essentials has been reported in China and Russia, along with an explosion in sales of survival shelters in America. In France believers were preparing to converge on a mountain where they believe aliens will rescue them.

Michael Strahan says he hasn't had a flu shot in years

Former New York Giant Michael Strahan recently appeared on Live! with Kelly and Michael. In an obvious attempt to promote the flu vaccine, host Kelly Ripa asks him whether he has gotten his flu shot yet. Strahan replies that he hasn’t had a flu shot in years and wouldn’t get one while he was in the NFL, and that he is in excellent health. Ripa appears somewhat unsure as to how to deal with such a candid response, especially since it runs counter to her efforts to promote the dangerous flu vaccine.

We won’t fly TSA protest

James Babb is Director of We Won’t Fly, an activist group seeking to educate people as to the dangers of allowing themselves to be moved through radioactive body scanners at airports. The group is staging a protest to have travelers opt out of body scanners in large enough numbers that they effectively shut down - or at least slow down - the processing of humans through airport security. He eloquently expounds on how people are not cattle to be ordered through procedures that could kill them.
