WASHINGTON - September 10, 2011 - This past Thursday, Terrahawk, LLC  showed off its Mobile Utility Surveillance Tower (MUST) to members of the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate along with their staffs.

With MUST, law enforcement agencies can quickly set up a mobile surveillance tower for emergency response, crowd control, or general surveillance.

VIENNA, Austria - September 7, 2011 - The emotional moment a group of chimpanzees saw daylight for the first time after being kept in a laboratory for their whole lives has been caught on film.

The video shows the animals edging out of the door hesitantly at first and looking curiously up at the sky.

But they then appear to celebrate their newfound freedom by hugging each other and laughing.

LONDON, England - September 1, 2011 - It will cost £220,000 to produce and will probably have the slippery texture of squid or scallops. But scientists are salivating over the prospect of the world’s first test-tube burger, which could be less than a year away.

Sausages and other processed meat products could swiftly follow, although pork chops and sirloin steaks will be much more problematic.

Hole in time could doom universe

ITHACA, New York - August 30, 2011 - Whether a research team at the esteemed Cornell University falls into the insane category remains to be seen, but they may be skating along the edge of sanity - and perhaps playing a deadly form of quantum Russian roulette - with the entire universe at stake.

What has created this disconcerting state of affairs?

Certifiably brilliant scientist Mordechay (Moti) Fridman and his tenacious team of "time bandits" have succeeded in punching a hole in the fabric of time by compressing and decompressing it.

Scientists alter chicken DNA to create embryo with alligator-like snout

LONDON, England - August 19, 2011 - Scientists have embarked further down the road to genetic engineering than ever before, by altering chicken DNA to create embryos with alligator-like snouts instead of beaks.

Experts changed the DNA of chicken embryos in the early stage of their development, enabling them to give the creatures snouts, which are thought to have been lost in the cretaceous period millions of years ago.

Researchers develop bulletproof human skin made from spider silk and goat milk

LONDON, England - August 16, 2011 - It might look like a poorly drawn picture of an alien, but this is actually one of the most advanced types of skin ever made - that can even stop bullets.

Researchers genetically engineered goats to produce milk that is packed with the same protein as silk spiders.

Once this is milked it can be spun out and weaved into a material that is ten times stronger than steel.

The fabric can then be blended with human skin to make what the scientists hope will be tough enough to stop even a bullet.

CHICAGO, Illinois – August 11, 2011 - You no longer have to look like a Star Trek Borg to wear skin-mounted electronics. A team of scientists and engineers at the University of Illinois has developed a “smart skin” that can be used to connect wearers to the cyber-world as easily as sticking on a temporary tattoo.

Fukushima lethal radiation levels imply hundreds of millions will die

TOKYO, Japan - August 5, 2011 - Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant radiation recordings of external gamma radiation have been so high this week they went off scale, said veteran nuclear expert Arnie Gunderson on Thursday after the famous physicist, Dr. Chris Busby, told the Japanese people that radioactive air contamination there is now 300 times that of Chernobyl and 1000 times the atomic bomb peak in 1963, implying that hundreds of millions of people are now dying from Fukushima radiation, including people in the United States.

The next generation of Tasers for cops to abuse

Submitted by Freedomman on Wed, 08/24/2011 - 14:54

WASHINGTON - August 2, 2011 - If you’re in a position to be tasered, you’ve typically got one not very impressive advantage: the police officer or rent-a-cop trying to send 20,000 volts through your body has to be pretty close to you. But your advantage is about to disappear in a hail of electric shock cartridges.

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania - August 1, 2011 - A picture of your face is all it takes for Alessandro Acquisti at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) to access a wealth of personal information. He and colleagues used PittPatt facial recognition software, which was developed at CMU and recently bought by Google, to match people with their Facebook profiles and gather names, birth dates and other demographics for one in three test subjects.
