Commentary: The philosophy of liberty transcends political labels

May 14, 2015 - One of the most amazing aspects of Ron Paul's twin presidential campaigns was the way they brought together people who, on the surface, attached themselves to many different political labels. I met wonderful people who identified as conservative, liberal, libertarian, anarchist, anarcho-capitalist, the occasional Objectivist, Constitutionalist, as well as others. But while identifying themselves by these labels, they held as their overriding value the ideal of liberty, an ideal that wasn't to be sacrificed at the altar of party politics or watered down or compromised for the sake of expediency. The way Ron Paul's supporters worked side by side, I believe, is evidence that the devotion to the ideal of liberty transcends all the various political labels that these individuals previously held. His supporters understood the way in which labels can be perverted to signify their opposite, and therefore put less weight in what they called themselves than what they stood for.

WASHINGTON (PNN) - May 19, 2015 - A federal judge has issued a preliminary injunction saying the District of Columbia’s new concealed carry law is unconstitutional.

The order, issued Monday by Judge Frederick J. Scullin, was the second decision in less than a year declaring the Washington, D.C., gun carry laws to be unconstitutional. In October of 2014, the same judge ruled that the district’s complete ban on gun carry was also in violation of the Constitution.

CHEYENNE, Wyoming (PNN) - May 19, 2015 - A new law in Wyoming that bans citizens from science and free speech has caused a number of concerns. Critics of the law say that it is an attempt to cover up Wyoming’s toxic waterways, a consequence of wide scale cattle ranching. Others suggest that the law is also intended to divert amateur scientists from raising alarm about the pending eruption of Yellowstone, which scientists have long warned would be catastrophic for much of the country.

REDMOND, Washington (PNN) - May 9, 2015 - At the end of April, Microsoft wowed developers and the media with yet another demo of its new HoloLens headset.

The HoloLens is essentially a computer you wear on your face. But instead of interacting through a keyboard, mouse, or touchscreen, the HoloLens projects 3-D images in front of you that you can reach out and touch. Based on the demos we've seen so far, it looks really cool.

I weep for what once was; for the vaunted achievements of intelligent and passionate men; for the blood shed and sacrifices made by those committed to the principles of freedom and self-determination; for the broken dreams of countless generations. I weep for the hope of a free country. I weep for America.

The right to bear virtual arms

WASHINGTON (PNN) - May 11, 2015 - When is a gun not just a gun? When it's also constitutionally protected free speech.

That is the legal argument being made by Cody Wilson, a Texas man who gained attention two years ago by posting what are believed to be the world's first online instructions for how to build a 3-D printable gun. Wilson's files for what he called the Liberator, a single-shot pistol mostly made of plastic, were partly a statement about freedom in the digital age and partly a provocation - and provoke they did.
